Houseblogging: a big step forward

The builders have done a bit of a recovery job this week - on the wardrobes which were the wrong size, the tiling and the painting. The painter wins the productivity award this week having got all the ceilings painted, walls and woodwork primed. It's now the last 1500m of the marathon towards a handover date of 1 November.

The kitchen was stuck in Auckland port where the workers were on strike (wouldn't have happened when my dad worked in the docks). It's now due it's MAF inspection to check there are no illegal immigrants in the packing cases before being shipped to Christchurch before being driven back to Wellington. It will be most well travelled kitchen. It will be tight to get the granite work surfaces fitted and the rest of the kitchen complete before we move in but we'll live with the incompleteness as there will be other trades putting flooring down and other fiddly bits for days after we move.

Still more to do but for the first time I am truly optimistic that we're going to be moving soon. So much so I've organised for the kitchen appliances to be shipped to site and for the removal companies to start estimating for the removals. Keep thinking kind thoughts though, we still need a bit of luck for it all to be done!

The offending wardrobe now built out into the room.
Painters are work - always a good sight!
