Basset blogging: this is more like it

Yesterday it was definitely chilly enough for the man of the house to turn cave man and light his beloved fire. It made the house warm and toasty and gave us free piping hot water for a bath.

We decided it was time to test our theory that a basset likes nothing better than to lie in front of a fire blocking out all the heat. However, the fire is in a no basset zone so the deal was that they could come into the living room if they sat on their cushion and didn't move. As a precautionary measure they had collar and lead on in case immediate owner control was required.

Just like little angels they flopped onto their big cushion and made themselves comfy in front of the roaring log fire. It wasn't long before there was deep and rhythmic breathing with the odd snort and snore (and that was just from me!).

They proved that they could be trusted under strict conditions. It doesn't mean that they'll be free ranging in the carpeted area of the house where some of the best furniture resides!

They loved it and it was fun to see them having such a good time. In fact it was quite a struggle to get them up and back into their chilly bedroom. Wonder why?
